Emily Fine, owner/founder of Pure Soul Movement (previously known as Soul Step Dance Studio), began her love affair with movement at the young age of 6, training as a classical dancer. She realized very early on that dancing wasn't only a powerful tool to build physical strength and flexibility but also confidence; a means of self expression, exploration, and understanding. This realization solidified a passion that has carried her through a profound life-long transformational journey which still translates into her teaching today.
After living in San Francisco for nearly a decade working, teaching, and training as a professional dancer, Emily moved back to Traverse City to open Soul Step Dance Studio in 2009. She wanted to create a space that was safe and comfortable for people of all ages to be able to experience the gift of dance and movement the way that she had at such a young age. Her classes continued to develop and take on a style and feeling that was far beyond just the physical benefits. In June 2015, Emily wanted to expand her knowledge, to further explore the mind-body connection, and received her RYT- 200 hour Yoga teacher certification with Jenny Lindvedt. Now, as a qualified Yoga teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience under her belt, she seeks to share the total healing and transformational benefits of dance and yoga. With her deep intuitive nature and unique style of teaching, combined with music, mantra and breath work, each one of Emily’s classes will take you on a rhythmic journey towards self-acceptance, self-realization and self-empowerment.
Before moving to Traverse City with her family, Laura Matchett, a former elementary school teacher, created and operated Harrisville Yoga Studio in Harrisville, Michigan. Each spring she leads a yoga and wellness retreat at White Birch Lodge in Elk Rapids, Michigan, now called, Resonae Retreat. Laura earned her RYT 200 certification under the teaching of Jennifer Whipple of Prana Yoga Center in Grand Blanc, MI in 2010. Always having a passion for creative movement, Laura enjoys the balance and clarity that yoga cultivates.
“I have learned from my teachers that Yoga is a sincere effort towards clarity, and I enjoy this journey each time I step onto my mat. And I seal this same intention to seek clarity as I step off my mat. Yoga cultivates a peaceful space within me; it encourages me to enjoy each moment, releasing what no longer serves me. I will always be a work in progress, and yoga offers continual growth.”
As a teacher Laura wishes every student to feel accepted, encouraged, and challenged. Her classes come from the heart, and her hope is that her students feel inspired to “walk their yoga,” as they step away from their mats at the end of class.
Currently, Laura teaches Yoga at Yen Yoga and Fitness and works in Extended Education with Northwestern Community College, both in Traverse City, MI.
